UCG Industrial: Rugged UniFi Cloud Gateway for Extreme Environments

The UCG Industrial is the first device in Ubiquiti's new UniFi Industrial lineup: a fanless WiFi 7 Cloud Gateway with a 270W PoE budget that operates from -30 to +50 degrees Celsius.

What Is the UCG Industrial?

In mid-February, Ubiquiti announced the new UniFi Industrial lineup and introduced the UCG Industrial as its first product. It is a full-featured UniFi Cloud Gateway in a fanless metal enclosure, built for environments where dust, vibrations, and temperature swings are part of daily life. Factory floors, construction sites, outdoor locations, warehouses.

Fanless Design

The enclosure is made from a combination of polycarbonate and aluminum with large heat fins on the surface. There is no fan — all cooling is passive. Under normal operation, the device draws 28 watts. The operating temperature range is -30 to +50 degrees Celsius.

No fan means no moving part that can fail and no dust being sucked in. In a factory floor with metal dust or on a construction site, that makes a significant difference in terms of longevity.

Ports and Networking

The UCG Industrial offers a broad port mix: one SFP+ port for 10G fiber or DAC, one 10GbE RJ45 port, four 2.5GbE ports, and several PoE+++ ports delivering up to 90 watts each. The total PoE budget is 270 watts. WiFi 7 is built in, though only on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (no 6 GHz band).

For small to medium installations, this means all devices can connect directly to the gateway without an additional switch. Access points, cameras, VoIP phones — all powered through a single device via PoE.

SIM Slots and 5G Connectivity

The device has two SIM card slots and supports the UniFi 5G Max Outdoor Modem. The remote SIM feature allows you to keep the SIM cards in the gateway while the 5G modem is mounted outside on a pole. This saves you the trip to the roof when you need to swap a SIM card.

The 5G connectivity is designed as a failover or as the primary connection at locations without fiber. On a construction site or at a temporary location, it can serve as the sole internet connection.

Full UniFi Suite

The UCG Industrial runs the complete UniFi software stack: Network, Protect, Access, and Talk. It is not just a router but a full console that can manage up to 50 UniFi devices and over 500 concurrent users.

Storage is available via a MicroSD slot. The device has 3 GB of RAM. For Protect recordings, this is sufficient for shorter retention periods. Anyone needing more storage will need to use a UNAS or NVR instead.

Mounting

A stand is included in the box, which can be swapped for handles for vertical mounting. Optionally, a 1U rack mount kit is available for 59 USD. The device weighs 2.4 kg without accessories.

Price

The UCG Industrial costs 579 USD.

Conclusion

The UCG Industrial is not a homelab device. It is built for environments where standard hardware does not last long. The fanless design and wide temperature range are the main reasons to choose it over a UDM Pro Max. The 270-watt PoE budget and integrated 10G ports also make it a compact all-in-one solution for smaller sites that want to avoid a separate switch.

Ubiquiti has announced that additional Industrial products will follow, including switches and access points with external antennas.
