Situation

A boutique hotel with 32 rooms across 4 floors in Lucerne's old town had constant complaints about poor WiFi. The existing setup with 3 consumer routers could not satisfy guests. Additionally, there was no clean separation between guest WiFi and the booking system.

Solution

Digital Runners equipped the hotel with a UniFi Dream Machine Pro Max, two Switch Pro 24 PoE units and 34 U6 In-Wall access points -- one per room plus one each in the lobby and restaurant. A voucher system was set up for guest WiFi, and the PMS received its own VLAN. Four G5 Bullet cameras monitor the entrance, car park and rear entrance.

Result

Guest satisfaction with WiFi rose from 2.8 to 4.7 stars (Booking.com). Every room now has stable, fast WiFi. The PMS is completely isolated, and reception manages vouchers with a single click. Total investment: approximately CHF 18,000.

With the UniFi Hotspot Manager, individual WiFi vouchers with time limits can be created at reception. Guests receive a code at check-in and log in via a branded portal. Access expires automatically.
Can guests access the internal hotel network?
No. Through VLAN segmentation, the guest network and operational network (PMS, POS, booking system) are completely separated. Guests only have internet access, not access to internal systems.
How is WiFi ensured in every room?
